A beautiful hill station located in Kangra Valley in Himachal Pradesh, about 35 km from Dharamsala. It gets its name from ‘pulum’ meaning abundant water and is surrounded by pine forests and flanked by the magnificent Dhauladhar range. Known as the tea capital of the Northern region of India, the tea bush was introduced by Dr. Jameson, Superintendent of Botanical Gardens in 1849. The tea bush that came from Almora thrived and so did the town, which became a focus of the European tea estate owners. Since then, the Kangra tea of Palampur has been known internationally.
Palampur is famous not only its aromatic tea gardens and impeccable paddy fields but also the colonial-era architecture and beautiful temples. This region has innumerable streams, brooks and water bodies which is a huge boon for the tea plantations. The narrow-gauge railway track, tea plantations, hill-paddy fields, pockets of thick wooded slopes that are home to the monal, wildlife, Gaddi villages, beautiful temples and landscapes is the true charm of Palampur. An opportunity to reconnect with nature’s glories are aplenty here in this picturesque town.
